BioÅg best quality humate, fulvic, humic acid products Interview

By Interviewer at 10/27/09 11:27

Name of your website?

BioÅg best quality humate, fulvic, humic acid products

Your name?

Shelby Zadow

Your Location (city, etc)

Independence

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We specialize in all things Humic Acid. Humic substances are the building blocks of our world and crucial to all life on earth. They are part of the soil-food web and provide a biochemical bridge between mineral and living matter. Plainly, they help all life absorb vitamins and nutrients and maintain cell balance. They are powerful (far more than Vitamin C) detoxifiers and antioxidants. In the past they were abundant in soil and water, but conventional farming and chlorinated city water has all but eliminated them from our diets. BioAg Founder, Dr. Robert Faust, has spent forty years studying humic substances and developed the most complex, natural way to manufacture these substances for human, pet and plant health.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Dr. Faust has been working with humates for nearly forty years. Wanting to improve the extraction methods, which often denature this 45 million year old substance, he studied the ancient Chinese methods. In the early 90's he perfected his unique, very natural, processing method and began supplying local farms and healers on the Island of Hawaii. Hawaii was small and most product was sold word of mouth and through a partner on the mainland. In 2006 Dr. Faust moved from Hawaii to Oregon, to be near family and still have access to the rainwater he needed to make his products. With an increased interest from organic farmers and naturopaths in his methods Dr. Faust decided to launch a humic products website, complete with educational information. The site continues to grow as we add new links and develop better educational material.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

www.humate.net

How did you decide on a name for your website?

BioAg has been the name Dr. Faust has used, way before it was cool to do so.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

We are truly humic substance scientists, not marketers. We understand how these products actually conduct themselves in the body and the soil. As example we do not use chemicals or acids to "unwind" our fulvic and are the only ones to use a proprietary method based on the ancient Chinese traditions. We also do no use chlorinated water with our products, as that can be toxic, and we do not use broad spectrum "minerals" which contain minerals the body doesn't need like aluminum, lead and cadmium. We are dedicated to educating the public on humic substances, and their benefits when used properly.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

We'd love to build the business and through that educate others on humic substances. As our industry struggles to standardize methods we hope to be part of that, eliminating the confusion and shutting out toxic products on the market. Eventually, we'll pass our knowledge and the business to a younger generation.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Relationship building is key for us. There is a lot of education and when people finally speak to us they understand that we know what we're talking about and we're here to help. Advertising simply lets people know we are out here and hopefully they'll give us a call While we have a wealth of knowledge, we are still a small company competing in a corporate world. We don't have the dollars to compete so we pride ourselves on our technology and customer service.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Well, I like the honesty of it and I get great feedback regarding that. I would add more links to education material, pictures, and better navigation. I would have more downloadable data sheets and brochures for easy sharing and a email referral program for some of the educational portions.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, we have a large facility here in Oregon and a sister facility back east. Would we be able to supply the world? Not right away, but we have the space to grow rapidly.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I don't suppose anything has been unexpected. It's all been a learning experience. Deciding what's worth the time, what adds value etc...

What has been your biggest challenge?

I think I probably answered that above. That and figuring out how to position the website so people can find us.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I just started working on this website, joining the team four months ago. In the past, I've found that keywords, naming pictures, adding my link to free websites, naming documents etc has really helped.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It's just expensive to make changes and grow it if you go outside of the company. Not knowing HTML means that inside changes are often slow and not perfect. I'm having to learn as I go, but I'm glad I'm learning. Website management is not my forte' but I like having the skill set so that I can understand the technology when we do have to go outside of the company for help.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The website is an important information portal for us. As long as we are in business, whether it's through our online shopping cart or not, we will have a website.

Why humic substances?

Because we all want to do our part to make the world a healthier place for the next generations. There are a lot of pieces to this puzzle, and no magic bullet. We'd like to think that we have one of those pieces in our hands and want to share it with others. Together we can truly make a difference in how we live and age.
